hello

My name is Jay Rodriguez. I am a textile designer, maker and illustrator from Puerto Rico.

My work as a textile designer and maker consists of creating pieces incorporating traditional techniques such as weaving in a floor loom and sewing, among others.

My purpose is to showcase how valuable these techniques are and how they can be used in contemporary ways. My hope is to inspire others to want to learn these techniques so that we can keep them alive and pass them on to future generations. I believe working with our hands is powerful, therapeutic and healing.

In my latest work, I explore the use of color in relation to structure.

My favorite fiber to work with is cotton and my favorite structure is plain weave. I’m inspired by artists like Gunta Stölzl y Anni Albers. One of my favorite experiences has been exhibiting my work in an Art and Design Fair (FAD) in MADMi, Puerto Rico.

I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in 2019. I’m currently based in Puerto Rico.
